Japanese Cosplay in Kuwait (^_^)

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

When you here Cosplay you know something Japanese is happening around :) those who know me think i was a Japanese person in a different life. That’s the youngest contestant the Italian with Japanese roots ;)

I’m involved in many of the Japanese community activities in Kuwait and the day before yesterday there was a Japanese speech/Cosplay contest.

The ceremony took place at Khaldiya campus in the evening, i arrived early and there was the members of the Japanese embassy there already doing the final preparation touches for the event.

The contestants arrived early also to the campus, they really looked so awesome :) or as they say in Japanese “Sugoy” lets look at some

The wise guy in Naruto, its amazing how those guys made or got these customs!!   just check the other guy.

One Peace man when i saw this guy i thought One Peace actually popped out of my TV screen sheesh! that’s damn good

The ceremony started a bit late which is strange for a Japanese organized event :/ It started with the speech contest which surprising to me  to see how some Kuwaiti people and Arabs speak fluent fluent …. and again fluent Japanese (o_O) some actually with animation tones.

Back to the Cosplayers ;)

They are waiting for their Que :)

This guy freaked me out abit :/  I don’t know from which animation though he and the yellow guy bellow.

And so we started!!

A shoot of some Cosplay contestants on stage … the girl in red caught my attention! i didn’t to which animation she related but then i got to know its called Black Butler  never heard about it before but shes cute :D

“That’s an order!” that’s her famous fares :P

On my way one i saw Grendizer the best Cosplay custom i have to say ;) I hope you enjoy the post Atigato!

An event with Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa and The99

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

We received an invitation to attend the premier of  The99 TV series at 360mall cinema. I really didn’t want to miss this opportunity i guessed that Dr. Naif would be there and i wanted to see the idea behind The99 series.

The story is interesting and bring the good old days when cartoons where promoting good values. The event was planned to start at 7:30 pm but there was a delay and we started at 8pm. There were the Indian, American & British embarrassed. Also, i saw fellow bloggers and icons of the media in Kuwait such as Mr. Al-Sanosy (السنعوسي).

The event started with a speech of H.E. the minister of information then Dr. Naif explaining the project and the idea, after that we started watching 6 episodes of The99 series.

After the event was done there was a Q&A session then we left, on my way out i shook hands with Dr. Naif and took a picture with him then told him i’m a blogger from 360Dewan, his reaction felt like he knew me and he was following our blog i felt i like him more ;D all the best to Dr. Naif and The99.

It’s Official now, SpiderMan’s new up-to-no-good rival in the new sequel; The Amazing Spiderman, is the… theee… THE LIZARD!… “hssss”. The news was recently announced at Comic-Con by Director Marc Webb.

Webb also announced that British/Welsh actor Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt.1) will be playing the role of the scaly creature in it’s human form; Dr. Curt Connors and voice act the CG parts of the character in the form of The Lizard.

It seems our friend Spidey and Marvel Entertainment are on a streak. Let’s see who comes next… Deadpool Anyone? =D

Books Review: Moomin “وادي الأمان” ;)

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Mon-FrontBack
I’m a sort of a book person and During my last visit to Dubai I’ve spent quite some time in Kinokuniya’s Book World in Dubai Mall. The place is one of my main attraction points in Dubai… It’sthe place to be if you are a reader. The picture below shows the collection of books I picked up during my last visit (some 140KD’s worth of books).

books-library

While browsing the manga and comics section of the book store,  amidst all the bloody and supernatural tales of Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and what else, a colorful hard cover comic strip collection of Tove Jansson’s Moomin was there waiting for me to pick it up, memories started flowing in when I saw the book and couldn’t resist the urge to pick the 2 parts in front of me.

Author / Artist: Tove Jansson

Publisher: Drawn and Quarterly
Language: English
Pages: 96
Type: Hard Cover
Size: 31.24 x 22 x 1.7 cm
Mon-In

Book Impressions:
From the simple Simplicity of the cover to the tender and somehow ritualistic drawings of Jansson’s fantastical Moomin world, the book shouts innocent pleasure. Every time you go through the book, works of Japanese masters of imaginative fiction such as Hayao Miyazaki come to mind, the Finnish Tove Jansson however created Moomin in the form of fantasy books around 1945 and then wrote and drew her comic strips from 1954 to 1959.
The stories handled within the book are nothing short of genuine in style and content that until this day; few if any can actually stand up to the”exoticness” of this grand piece of fiction. The stories are lighthearted, but shrouds you with a weird sense of dread and gloomy expectations, yet the images of the book manages to end put smile through it all until you reach the inevitable happy ending. Moomin is a classic in its own right and not the kind that you put on the shelves for shows, you’ll read and reread it again and will wish Tove Jansson has made more.
Happy Reading to you all :)

Ironman and Wolverine Make it to Japan in an Anime debut!

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Apparently sometime back in 2010 someone at Marvel Comics decided that anime fans should get some of the Marvel goods by introducing two of their most iconic characters into the Anime scene, giving Ironman and Wolverine an Otaku-Makeover!

I’ve clumsily learnt about this by accident where I’ve stumbled on the whole Ironman anime (directed by: Yuzo Sato) consisting of 12 episodes online. I’ve later learnt that this has been aired back in October 1st. 2010  on Animax in Japan and G4 States side, and ended on December 17th of the same year. Not long ago however, in January 7th 2011, Wolverine’s cut of the cake (Directed by: Hiroshi Aoyama) started airing and will take the same stretch apparently of 12 episodes, running on the same networks as its predecessor.

Both shows have been produced by the giants at Madhouse Studio in Japan (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Trigun, Sakura Wars… etc) so you are definitely in for a treat. Both shows have been given their unique story lines, both taking place in Japan whether visiting for scientific reasons by introducing IronMan Dio and stumbling upon an evil organization called Zodiac (in Starks’s case) or looking for a Lost/kidnapped girlfriend, daughter of a Japanese Crime Syndicate (Logan’s case).

Marvel purists might object on the adaptation, but it seems that the West and East are looking to make amends somehow through these adaptations, can’t wait to see who’s next on Marvel’s list to make it into Anime.

Below are trailers found on youtube for both shows, enjoy!
