Snow White and the Huntsman [Review]

Saturday, June 2nd, 2012

I didn’t know what to expect when I decided to join my buddy Abdulrahman from ChapterQ8 blog to go and see Snow White and the Huntsman… from what I recall, there was a little role for a “Huntsman” back in the old days of yore, and watching the trailer, I honestly didn’t know what I signed myself for. Apparently it turned out that I was walking in on my worst nightmare. Read more for the full review.

The Avengers: Reviewed [Movies]

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Movie Title:

The Avengers (Avengers Assemble / UK)

Director:

Joss Whedon

Starring

Rober Downey Jr.

Chris Evans

Mark Ruffalo

Chris Hemsworth

Scarlett Johansson

Jeremy Renner

Tom Hiddleston

Samuel L.Jackson

Full List from IMDB

Production House:

Marvel Studios, Paramount Pictures
More Info:

Website, Wikipedia, IMDB

Plot (Summarized – May Contain Spoilers):

In a senseless attempt to satisfy his thirst for revenge and might, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is attempting to assemble an army of an alien nation that goes by the name “Chitauri” (to you who speak Persian, I know…) in order to conquer and rule earth and consequently ended up successfully stealing The Tesseract; an unlimited energy source of some kind that comes in the shape of a cube.

S.H.I.E.L.D. under the leadership of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) sent their agents to find and recruit who would now be known as “The Avengers” to stop Luki, retrieve the Tesseract and stop an alien invasion in the process.

My Take:

When I first wrote about the avengers back in August 2011 I was so enthralled about the idea while in the same time so petrified it would simply suck.

I mean c’mon, this movie is full of stars that there are barely any stars left up there to look at! It’s the ultimate conflict of interest, a hybrid stew of fish and meat… it just can’t work

Boy was I wrong…

Many have though “Joss Whedon?! How, why?!” but the dude proved himself a master of direction! To be able to synchronize the cast in a way that just sing in harmony is not an easy feat and he did it like he’s been doing it all his life!

I can’t remember an emotion that I did not feel throughout the movie, it was a rollercoaster of multiple genres that should not have worked out but it did, from beginning to end, there was intensity, awe, shock, fear, grief, happiness and a senseless but well employed comedy.

The cast just seemed to complete each other, with all their differences somehow Mr. Whedon made it all seem like all of the cast were made for their parts and now that I’ve seen the movie, I can’t imagine what the movie would have looked like without all of the current cast in it!

The camera work was stunningly complex yet fluid and easy to follow, backed up by a constantly adaptive soundtrack and SFX, the CG work was as brilliant as ever.

The whole thing was an eye-pleasing symphony of super-hero action mash-up… What on earth are you waiting for?! It’s a simple three-step procedure:

1-    Watch it in the Theater

2-    Watch it again

3-    Buy the Blue Ray version when it’s out AND watch it again!

Now go!

PS. Don’t leave the theater when the movie ends, as usual, there’s a little post-credit “stuff” for you after the ending, Enjoy ;)

Rating:

5 out of 5
(I would have given it 6 out of 5, but Cinescape “KNCC” took the bonus 6th star out of the movie: Read below for some rant)

A message to KNCC (Cinescape):

Really?! I can understand the usual censorships but to have jumps and cuts during fight-scenes and conversations?! I mean it’s not like the hulk is kissing his enemies to death!! And just in case it didn’t sink in yet, many of us DO CARE about the progression of the story line and the conversations that convey it.

PLEASE stop, stop doing that, stop cutting down the show time on our expense; it takes the fun out of the movie, disturbs the flow of the action and just leaves you with an uneasy feeling of “disturbance”, you should have heard the murmuring and dissatisfaction in the theater after each and every cut… I mean really??

We still love you guys, just take it easy with that knife of yours. Cheerios!

Movie review: Black Gold

Monday, December 5th, 2011

YouTube Preview Image

[Watch on YouTube]

Movie Premier: Tora Bora, A definite step forward for Kuwaiti Cinema [Movies]

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

IMG_0575

A bringer of hope into a world that Kuwaiti film/TV making rarely treads in. It’s been so long since we have created something with this magnitude, we’ve obviously started it, but we never stuck to the track and strayed into the trap of the dreadful routine of tried and beaten TV drama. This is exactly the move the Kuwaiti movie scene needs to take, and thankfully they just did.

I won’t dwell on the hardships the project and the cast went through, delays, rural and foreign locations, international actors and the fact that a TV series has been turned into a movie is daring enough. Regardless of what your opinion might be regarding the movie, you have to respect the initiative and raise your hats off to the people behind it.

Below is a a 6 minutes coverage video of the event:

Movie Title:
Tora Bora

Director:
Waleed Al-Awadhi

Starring
Saad Al-Faraj
Khalid Amin
Asmahan Tawfiq
Kais Nashif
Al-Araby Al-Sassy
More…

Production House:
C Sky Pictures

More Info:
Website, IMDB

Plot (Summarized – Spoiler Free):

The story follows Abu Tareq (Saad Al-Faraj) and his wife’s (Asmahan Tawfiq) Journey to Afghanistan in a perilous search of their youngest son Ahmed (Abdullah Al-Tararwa) who’s been talked into Jihad and irrationally joins the ranks of the Taliban regime residing in Tora Bora.

My Take (May Contain Spoilers):

Unlike a western movie where my subconsciousness keeps me from keen observations (Because I know the standard quality of most western movies) I found myself scrutinizing every aspect of the movie and I have to say I was really impressed with the Cinematography, Direction, Sound and Acting. You’ll get that weird feeling of irregularity since we’re not used to watching Kuwaiti movies but after 10 minutes or so, You’ll find yourself engulfed by the atmosphere and you’ll start getting attached to the characters and align yourself with the storyline. The pace was a little fast in some cases, however this is a movie made out of footage shot for a TV series so we should expect as much.

You’ll find different emotions embedded in the movie; Excitement, anger, sadness, dread and in somehow the director managed to sneak in unexpected laughs as well.

This may not be what you have in mind, but it’s definitely a commendable effort by a team who (in my book) became soldiers.

I’d definitely recommend attending the movie, if not for the movie, go for the people behind it and to encourage the Kuwaiti Cinema. You won’t be disappointed either way :)

Movie review: Scott pilgrim VS the world

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

My friend Taz recommended to me this movie very strongly … so i bought it … at first i thought why did Taz recommend this movie but after a while into the movie i really liked it :D

For sure the movie will not appeal to everybody, it feels like your watching a cartoon but in reality! its a Canadian comedy love story.

What i learned is this movie was a low budget movie and was not expected to boom but actually it reached an unexpected success.

If you have seen it let me know what you think and if your planning to see it also let me know what you think :P click here to the movie official web-site.

I don’t recommend this movie for children though
